Said (Saeed Mohamadi) and Reeboir (Bahman Ghobadi) are a pair of itinerant teachers who become split up while seeking pupils near the border of Iraq. Each man carries a blackboard on his back with which to teach, but the tools of their trade are put to differing purposes when Reeboir encounters a group of young smugglers and Said joins a band of nomads seeking to cross the border.
